Although raw and often kinky sex spice up this tale, it is at its heart a love story between two cowboys who are too hardheaded to realize they are perfect for each other. BuckleRoos succeeds as both a raunchy romance and a romance that is raunchy, not an easy feat. Dean Phoenix and Marcus Iron get a chance to display their impressive acting chops as they portray these two hunks in love. Both Dean and Marcus have had stellar careers, but this production is a pinnacle for each. A great cast, most notably Zak Spears in a non-sexual role, and the irrepressible Owen Hawk, as Dean's hot-to-trot nephew, ably supports them. Technically, the production is big budget, with great videography, surprisingly good special effects, superb direction by John Rutherford and Jerry Douglas, crisp and inventive editing, music that enhances the action, and a script (penned by Douglas) that is often laugh-out-loud funny. In fact, BuckleRoos often feels more like a real movie than a gay porn production. In Colt's nearly forty year history, there has never been a production as ambitious as this one, or that has been so fully realized. It is, without a doubt, an instant classic, and one of the best of 2004, hands down.
